The Talkeetna Skate Park Committee has been revived and is being spearheaded by Caitlin Palmer. This is exciting news after a long gap in the project’s progress. We are currently seeking interested community members to add to the skate park committee and help bring this exciting, new space to our community!

About the Talkeetna Skate Park
The grassroots planning for Talkeetna Skate Park began in 2015, with a dedicate group of volunteers who gathered momentum, and the use of a parcel of MSB land, next to Wildwoods Playground. That site held the Talkeetna Public Library and through great efforts it was removed is a safe manner as asbestos mitigation was involved. In 2015-16 significant funds we donated from individuals and local businesses. When the volunteer organizers moved from Talkeetna there was a lull in the project until 2024, when a new group of volunteers began work to help make the park a reality.
Of note: long time seasonal resident, mountain guide, and well known professional athlete, Michael Gardner, begun planning with local volunteers. An experienced planner of rural skateparks, he brought a great joy and momentum to the project. Tragically, in October 2024, Michael was in a fatal accident while climbing in Nepal. Our park planner, Grindline Skate Parks, Inc. with our local volunteers remained committed to seeing the project through to completion and hope to see construction begin in summer 2025.
The Talkeetna Skatepark aims to be an inclusive community gathering space and our plan is to incorporate amenities such as benches and thoughtful landscaping so it will be a true community space that fosters connection, physical exercise, challenges, and inclusivity.
